SRI LANKA BOXING ASSOCIATION

Boxing in Sri Lanka traces its roots back to the British colonial era, when the sport gained immense popularity across Ceylon. Competitive boxing events attracted large crowds and strong participation, particularly from the armed forces. This early enthusiasm led to the formation of the United Services Boxing Association of Ceylon (USBAC), which played a pioneering role in organizing the sport locally.

As boxing expanded into the Police, schools, and colleges, the need for a broader governing body became evident. In 1926, the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) of Ceylon was established, further strengthening the sport’s foundation across the island.

In 2013, the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) was officially established under the guidance of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, the International Boxing Association, and the Ministry of Sports. Since then, BASL has functioned as the nationally recognized governing body for amateur boxing in Sri Lanka.

Today, the Sri Lanka Boxing Association operates under a dedicated Executive Committee and supervises affiliated provincial associations, clubs, coaches, referees, and athletes islandwide. With the support of the government and valued corporate partners, we continue to build a strong pathway for Sri Lankan boxers to compete and succeed at regional, Asian, Commonwealth, and Olympic levels.

Our commitment is to develop boxing as a disciplined, inclusive, and internationally competitive sport while nurturing the next generation of champions.
