Dr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara is a distinguished sports administrator, entrepreneur, and diplomat whose leadership continues to strengthen the future of boxing in Sri Lanka.

He currently serves as the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Guinea, playing an important diplomatic role in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting Sri Lanka internationally.

An old boy of Royal College, Polonnaruwa, Dr. Shanaka was actively involved in sports during his youth. As a former athlete, he achieved third place at the National Festival Games, reflecting his early dedication to competitive sport and discipline.

Professionally, he is the Founder and Chairman of APS Group, established in 2016, which has grown into a successful business operation in Guinea under his strategic leadership and vision.

🏆 Contribution to International Boxing Development

Beyond his personal and professional achievements, Dr. Shanaka has made significant contributions to boxing development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, particularly in Guinea. His support and strategic planning were instrumental in uplifting Guinea’s boxing standards.

Under his guidance:

  • The Guinea National Boxing Team secured the prestigious West Africa Champion Award in 2018.

  • The Guinea Military Boxing Team won the Champion Award in 2019.

These milestones reflect his commitment to athlete development, structured planning, and performance excellence at the international level.


🇱🇰 Leadership in Sri Lanka

In his first year as President of the Sri Lanka Boxing Association, Dr. Shanaka achieved a historic milestone by successfully securing and hosting the Asian Under-22 Boxing Championships in Colombo. This landmark event provided invaluable international exposure for Sri Lankan youth boxers and significantly boosted the country’s boxing profile in Asia.

He has worked tirelessly to promote, modernize, and strengthen boxing structures nationwide, focusing on youth development, transparency, and international competitiveness.

Dr. Shanaka continues to build on the strong legacy of Dian Gomes, who led the association for over two decades, while steering Sri Lankan boxing toward a new era of growth and global recognition.
